Daily Ginko Photo and Haiku: making the urban bloom

Posted on February 5, 2022February 5, 2022

Taken on February 1st 2022 at Katies’s pad in Cleethorpes.
(anything in bright white is clickable)
Last Tuesday I ate a feast of baked potatoes and tomatoes, cooked in Katie’s aga, and as we ate we spoke about her plans to make Cleethorpes bloom again. Katie had called me to invite me to make some photography and curate some photographic exhibitions about her project. I think that could be really exciting and I have some ideas that could be impactful.

What does it mean to live in the City of Cleethorpes?

As I post this, I have just read an article about how the power of cities and light witten by Christoper Preston, which starts with a sub heading that reads:

“Urbanization and the spread of artificial light are transforming life for all of earth’s species, bringing about a host of unintended consequences”
(click on the line above to read Preston’s article)

Preston writes about how in 1800, only two percent of us lived in cities, but how this has increased, he quoted figues that claimed in 2007 the percentage topped 50%. He also writes though that as a species we have spent close to 200, 000 years living in grasslands and scrubbly forests, hunting and foraging.
I guess this means the natural is part of our DNA

RHS in Bloom
Katie is heading a new project to reconnect Cleethorpes with the RHS in Bloom project, which started in 1963 (click here) and Cleethorpes used to be involved with.
The RHS project has an aim to promote the concept of gardening as a powerful tool to bring communities together, and tackling local issues.
I really like the idea of city dwellers bringing the countryside, and the concept of growing things into the urban build.
I am thinking of ‘a city’ as being any urban build.

As we spoke we ate the potatoes and tomatoes which had onions from one her friends allotments. How great was that……
